Sie promovierte 2018 an der Versuchsanstalt f\u00fcr Wasserbau, Hydrologie und Glaziologie (VAW) der ETH Z\u00fcrich zum Thema Schwemmholz in Fl\u00fcssen (\u201eModeling hazards related to large wood in rivers\u201c) und wurde f\u00fcr ihre Doktorarbeit mit der ETH-Medaille ausgezeichnet. Nach dem Abschluss ihres Doktorats erhielt Dr. Schalko ein Stipendium des Schweizerischen Nationalfonds, um als Postdoc am Nepf Environmental Fluid Mechanics Laboratory am MIT zu arbeiten. Ihre Forschung zielt darauf ab, ein grundlegendes Verst\u00e4ndnis der Transportprozesse in Flie\u00dfgew\u00e4ssern zu erlangen, um einen positiven Einfluss auf die Umwelt zu haben.
